Up In Smoke

Los Angeles now has more medical marijuana clinics than it can count. These pot clubs are already pseudo-legal at best, and some of them appear to be getting around a city ordinance designed to stop their proliferation.

Correspondent Judy Muller hits the streets to find some of these clinics and drills city council members on why they have had so much trouble enforcing a moratorium on new dispensaries.

Other Segments From This Episode:

Cannabis Cowboys - Squads of law enforcement officials spend each fall eradicating plants from thousands of illegal pot farms. Correspondent John Larson went on a search and destroy mission with a group of elite officers we call the Cannabis Cowboys.

My Son, The Dealer - Commentator Marcos Villatoro encouraged his son to come up with some creative ways to raise money for a school trip to Washington, DC. Little did he know his son would soon be the most popular dealer at his junior high.

Last year, Jerry Brown, the state’s attorney general issued a legal opinion that clearly stated that "a properly organized and operated collective or cooperative that dispenses medical marijuana through a storefront may be lawful under California law" Maybe the L.A. attorneys didn't get the memo.

Regulate dispensaries, weed out the bad ones, and allow sick Californian's safe access to medical marijuana. It's the law, it's what we the voters asked the state to do in 1996 with the passage of proposition 215. part C of prop 215 states, "(C) To encourage the federal and state governments to implement a plan to provide for the safe and affordable distribution of marijuana to all patients in medical need of marijuana." Does it look like the district attorneys are following that part of the law? why not?

Wow, if SoCal Connected gets any more biased, Karen Foshay, Judy Muller, and Alberto Arce may find themselves being recruited by Fox news...

I didn't realize Southern California was so conservative. Aren't there REAL crimes worth fighting? it's a plant for Christ's sake! It should just be legalized like beer. The medical users could still get their benefit, and we'd stop spending money we don't have busting stoners who probably just want to watch TV.

People need to get their panties untwisted about marijuana.
