Commentary by Patt Morrison

California, I may want a divorce. From everyone. Voters, the Governor, legislature... splitsville.

I couldn't agree more with Patt Morrison's commentary, we need to start enacting some kind of oversight or make it harder for some of these propositions to go on the ballet.

For example, during the 2008 election, the voters approved the construction of a high speed rail system. Well that's nice, but how are we going to pay for it? If it's something that's really needed, let private enterprise pay for it.

This is why the founding fathers wanted a representative government. They felt the average citizen was not educated enough to vote on complex issues.

I certainly hope Ms. Morrison is joking about divorcing CA if things don't go well next election. As Tim Taylor alluded to above, many voters don't understand the implications of voting on bond measures - long term debt. It would be a great shame to lose Patt as a local reporter.
