Cambio - Change

The SoCal Connected web-team captures the Inauguration reaction from the Sunset Coin-Op Laundry in Silverlake. Wall-mounted televisions broadcast the event with Spanish voice-over. George Guevara breaks his dryer induced trance to watch the historic event while other customers swap dollars for change and continue washing. After the swearing-in ceremony, Guevara resumes folding his freshly laundered shirts. Tuesday is his only day off.

This is a mazing! Thanks for showing such an original programming!

I really liked this but in a different way than the previous ones. Liked the contrast of history being made among the mundane. The fresh start with the dirty clothes. I could go on.

As they say in rowing, nice piece.

There's something wonderful about this.

Inded, I like this way of contextualizing it within the ordinary. Powerful .. wouldn't have minded hearing someone talk sooner though.

This takes me back to my East Boston days, particularly 3/19/03. The laundromat on Saratoga Street had CNN on, covering the start of the "shock and awe" campaign. Some of the customers took a few seconds to look up, but most were intensely focused either on folding shirts and pants, or on watching their kids. It's striking how, in one instant, everything can change and still remain the same.

Nice piece.

Beautifully unconventional way of capturing an historic moment. Loved it.

The juxtaposition of "cambio" for the man who must do his laundry on his only day off, and "change" for the country is brilliant! Keep the videos coming!

I really liked the excitement of the crowd on the television combined with the simplicity of everyday life. Good video.
