Venice is the edge of the Western Hemisphere.
So many things collide, collapse and confront each other here that it's hard to wrap one's head around this community. Researching Venice for the purposes of creating the next installment of Departures has introduced us to so many histories, narratives and trends that it's almost impossible to choose two or three, let alone one.
To help us think about Venice we created an annotated Google map in hopes of better visualizing the trends, zones and micro-communities that will guide us in the creation of the new series.
It's nowhere near complete, but this map does outline the direction we're taking. Take a look at it and tell us what we are missing!
