It All Begins With Paper and Pencil

After 4 months of research, river clean-ups, workshops, interviews, fishing and driving through the concrete channels of the Los Angeles River, Departures: LA River is finally up and running.

This has been the most comprehensive (and focused) of all the Departures installments so far, with over six hours of content and some very cool resources to play with.

So, what did we learn?

We learned we need to open up Departures content to user commenting, annotation and upload. We learned need to invest more time and effort in processes and tools that connect our to Departures' community outreach and educational tracks. We also learned that we need to find ways to get folks physically and literally INVOLVED with the Los Angeles River (or any other area that we cover).

If Departures becomes a springboard for user engagement - not just online, but in the flesh.... Then we've done our jobs.

Not that we haven't are jobs. As I've said before, and as I've told every member of our team, this is the best Departures so far.

And it all begins with paper and pencil... Check out the video below to see what I mean.
