About the Film

In Oakland, Ca., a young man wakes up with a heavy heart, and decides to walk to the local barbershop. Dante, like most young black males in Oakland, CA has a head full of beautiful dread locks. But one morning, he puts on his favorite hoody, and takes a walk through his neighborhood to the local barbershop. The events that follow give us a glimpse into Dante's home life, and we learn just how big his heart truly is.

About the Filmmaker

Ryan Coogler is a second year graduate student in USC's School of Cinematic Arts MFA Production Program. A Richmond, CA native, Ryan did his Undergraduate work at Sacramento State University where he also played on the football team. After his first semester at USC, Ryan was named a 2008 recipient of the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) scholarship for achievement in directing.
