Blood Debts

About the Film

In the shadows of the Vietnamese underworld, American-born mafioso Johnny Le struggles to shake his "white-boy" reputation among the anh em. But when he's called upon to settle a score with an old friend and mentor, Johnny must prove that his loyalties are with his brothers and not his past.

About the Filmmaker

The son of refugees from the war in Vietnam, Roland Nguyen was the first Vietnamese baby born in North Dakota.  Although he grew up in an exclusively English-speaking community, Roland developed a near-native proficiency of his family's mother tongue by watching thousands of hours of Vietnamese-dubbed Hong Kong martial arts television serials as a child.

In 2002, Roland left his job as a management consultant to write a martial arts novel set in historical Vietnam. He then set off to travel the land where the story took place. The journey changed his life, and upon returning to the US at the end of2003, Roland knew that his mission was to share his passion for the stories of Asia through the moving image.  He is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts.
