Halloween is almost here! You can still be excited for the holiday even if you're past your Trick or Treating days. Check out these ways to get excited, get in costume, and get involved volunteering in Los Angeles this weekend.
The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is having its 1st Howl Away Hunger event on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Join the fight against hunger while dressed up in your favorite Halloween costume. Volunteers are needed to assemble food packages that go to women with infants, children, and seniors in Los Angeles County.
With a slower economy, more people need food assistance. For more information on how to Howl Away Hunger, check out the LA Regional Food Bank for more information.
If you'd like to get into the Halloween spirit while spending time outdoors, try volunteering for The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority Ranger Explorers program. The organization offers young inner city youth an opportunity to learn about the Ranger Profession. Each year the Ranger Explorers Build a Haunted House for the community in the Cypress Park, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Eagle Rock, Pasadena areas and more.
The Haunted House has served these communities for the pass seven years, free of charge. In 2008 the Haunted House had over 3000 visitors in a 3-day period. The organization is looking for volunteers to be performers, work the lines, and help dismantle the exhibition. Visit L.A. Works for more information.
Volunteers are also needed for a Halloween Party in the Hollywood Hills benefiting the AIDS Research Alliance of America. You could help with pumpkin carving, decor, and setting up for the event on Friday Oct. 30. For more information click here.
Finally, if you're feeling artsy you might want to help out with The REACH Foundation's crafts at the Lakewood Center Mall October 31 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Volunteers will assist children in a craft celebrating Halloween. The REACH Foundation supports organizations and individual artists that enrich and enhance the lives of children through the creative and performing arts. For contact information click here.
