Chances are, even if you don't know her by name, you know Barbara Kruger's work: bold red and white type over simple, often nostalgia-inducing, black and white images. Utilizing just pictures and text, Kruger, skillfully and pointedly, jabs at modern American politics and culture and reveals the disconnect that often exists between our rhetoric and our practice. This Thursday, Barbara Kruger will discuss her work, its distinct aesthetic and its political implications, with LACMA CEO Michael Govan. If you get there on the early side, slip into LACMA's BCAM building and take a ride in an elevator decked out in Kruger originals.
From the website: Join LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan for a conversation with renowned contemporary artist Barbara Kruger. Barbara Kruger transformed LACMA's BCAM elevator from a functional object into a major work of art. She and Michael Govan will discuss how this work manifests her interest in creating art and commentary with "pictures and words."
