The copy desk over at Mental Floss magazine and mentalfloss.com would seem to be enjoying themselves...
An article in that pub by Alex Abella (author of, Soldiers of Reason: The RAND Corporation and the Rise of the American Empire,) is headlined, "The Rand Corporation: The Think Tank That Controls America."
Better still, the deck reads:
If you think the Internet came out of Silicon Valley, that NASA planned the first satellite to orbit Earth, or that IBM created the modern computer—think again. Each one of these breakthroughs was conceived at RAND, a shadowy think tank in Santa Monica...
The essay itself doesn't match that teaser's noir-ish tone. (Shadowy?) Instead, Abella's piece recites some of the tank's historic achievements, contemporary assignments, and naming some of the corp's most famous alumni.
The full story is here, and the book is available via here.
One related note -- a commenter on mentalfloss.com mentions the artwork at RAND.
Updated: Chalmers Johnson reviewed Abella's book here and notes that the 'shadowy' bit comes from the book publisher.
RAND controls America? That better be a convincing article, to say the least...
