Out of Control

It's out of control. It's mind boggling. I can't fit anymore information into my cranial space.

Everyday I get news links from friends, I get invitations to try out new applications, I get pinged to see a new video on YouTube, I get only through half the tweets in my stream, I can't take it anymore. But I can't stop.

Last Call

I had my last alcoholic beverage March 13th 2005. I just couldn't handle the alcohol and I was just "over" it. Before that I loved a cocktail, a nice glass of Merlot, a cold beer and or a frosty confection of whipped cream and hard liquor. Instead of a kid in a candy store, I was an adult with cash in a sparkly bar. After I slogged through a cold winter's night in Boston looking for a liquor store, did I realize that I was out there for the alcohol which ruled my life.

So I turned around and went back to the hotel.

Back to the internet. I live and breathe the internet, could I live without it? No. Can I cut down? Maybe. But I have learned to step away from the constant whirling of the digital sandstorm. In moderation the internet is healthy, but an overdose of it can be destructive, just like alcohol. There are enough stories of people getting into trouble while online, yet we don't see it as a disease like alcoholism.

Out of control? No, it's not about being in control, its all about being aware.
