About the Series
Life & Times at Town Hall features some of the most prominent, newsworthy and controversial authorities in the United States and abroad. Celebrated names featured on segments include: Robert F.Kennedy, Jr., Kenneth Starr, Dan Rather, and Cardinal Mahony, archbishop of Los Angeles.

The series, produced by KCET's news and public affairs department in partnership with Town Hall Los Angeles, brings together two highly respected institutions -- KCET's signature, award-winning news and public affairs series "Life & Times Tonight" and Town Hall Los Angeles -- for a 30-minute program featuring speeches by local, national and international leaders and decision makers, with follow-up questions asked by local high school students.

Established in 1937, Town Hall Los Angeles serves as Southern California's leading public issues forum. Each luncheon meeting features a speaker, ranging from heads of state to leaders in industry, business, media, religion and the arts, to local decision makers, and is followed by questions from the audience.

Afterward, the speaker holds a private question-and-answer session with high school students who have attended the luncheon as part of Town Hall's American Heritage Student Program which reaches out to youth who are mostly from inner-city, disadvantaged communities.

Each episode will feature an edited version of the Town Hall Los Angeles speaker's presentation followed by an edited version of the question-and-answer session with the high school students.

The "Life & Times at Town Hall" television series will be hosted by the anchor of KCET's "Life & Times Tonight," Val Zavala, vice president of news and public affairs for KCET.

Funding for "Life & Times at Town Hall" is provided by The Boeing Company with a grant from The Boeing Company Charitable Trust. Additional funding provided by Wells Fargo, with support from The John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation.
