How do dance companies survive in Los Angeles? Vicki Curry takes a look at what it takes to keep dance alive. |

Los Angeles is not often thought of as a major center for dance. But much of the history of 20th century dance can be traced to LA.
It's been home to Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Martha Graham, Lestor Horton, Bella Lewitzky, Alvin Ailey, and Twyla Tharp. Currently, there is a thriving dance scene here, with more than 100 non-profit dance companies in LA County,
plus numerous informal groups. Below are
some of the companies featured on Life & Times.
